Design Challenge

Design a promotional print publication to help the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum promote a collection of your choice. Assess the message and do research to inform your design direction. Use Adobe InDesign to create dynamic type, image and message in a visually engaging way. Use design principles with type (use paragraph and character styles), image, and a modular grid to arrange all elements. Design multiple iterations and refine. Think about the end-user experience to inform all design choices. The purpose of this project was to design an 8-page publication to showcase Cooper Hewitt’s Bauhaus Master by Herbert Beyer exhibit collection.

Solution

“The World of Radio” features radios, drawings, and photographs spanning for more than eight decades that were inspired by a batik mural dedicated to the professional career of soprano and radio star Jessica Dragonette (American, 1900-1980). I began researching The Cooper Hewitt’s brand guidelines, curated an image library, and designed multiple layouts leading to a publication with a compelling story of the most significant items and images in the collection. This publication will effectively promote and create public interest for this unique exhibit.
